Patrick & Meg Hoz, Paul Johnson & Marilyn Miller started Cosmos Coffee Café in October of 2004. The business pair viewed opening and running a coffee shop as an entrepreneurial challenge. With an ideal location in the heart of La Mesa , they could not pass up the opportunity to provide a hip and urban café for the changing demographics of the community.

The name “Cosmos” is defined as a harmonious universe. It was chosen because the owners wanted to provide a place where people in the community could get together and relax. They have decorated the walls with the artwork done by local artists and feature music on Tuesday and Saturday nights by local musicians.

The popularity of Cosmos Coffee Café can be attributed to the high standards that were established from the beginning. Cosmos purchases high-quality, fair trade certified coffees and sells them along with fresh, rich-brewed, Italian style espresso beverages, a variety of pastries, healthy salads and sandwiches, and coffee-related accessories and clothing. From owners who gave back to their community, to the employees who became a part of the community, Cosmos has discovered the formula for a successful independent café.
